STARTING AT MILE 0

THURSDAY, JULY 17, 2014
From Mile 0 to Mile 175
We headed out, late morning, heading north toward Miami.  It is really not that far, in Texas terms, but, when you can only drive 40-50 mph and sometimes even slower....It. Takes. Forever.  Luckily, you have some pretty good scenery along the way.

A gentleman that I met last night at Pepe's, Mike, told us about a State Park that is about 45 minutes into the drive.  We stopped to scout it out.  It is wonderful.  We have decided to go back and spend the day there, when our friends, Carl and Jamie, get here.  We will snorkle, nap, cook out, nap, snack, nap.....you get the idea.  It is called Bahia Honda State Park.  Really nice!

WILDLIFE.....WELL, MAYBE NOT SO WILD...

I took these pics at the State Park...

These pics were taken at a Fruit Market/Petting Zoo....go figure....

THE EVERGLADES
Thanks to my friend Nan, I am a bit of a National Park Nerd.  I have the NP Passport booklet that you get the stamps for every time you visit a NP.  I think it is kinda cool, and nerdy at the same time.  Let me say that Denali NP is an amazing park.  It is a close race between Denali and Wrangell-St. Elias NP for the park that I have liked the best, so far.  Not to insult anyone, but The Everglades NP is not on my favorite list.  I can appreciate some of its beauty, but I found it quite dull.  I think if we had been able to do an airboat tour or the canoe trails, it would have been more enjoyable, as long as we had on mosquito netting suits.  I did get some nice pics below...
